A bit of the bight that bit.....

Had to shelter from gale at Middle Island, about 80 nm from Esperance. Bight crossing was ok until the fourth day when the bad weather hit. Now heading for Duke of Orleans Bay for the night before tackling the last 40 miles to Esperance. Main casualty was the main - despite severe reefing a gust tore the whole clew off the sail. Every stitch ripped, dont know if it was old age or non uv thread. If you know of a good sail repairer in Esperance pls let us know ! Before the bad weather forced us into Middle Island, we'd actually only taken 4.5 days from Streaky Bay, which isnt too bad. Photos to follow soon.

  1. Jan and Mike - we were so worried that you'd be crossing the GAB with that B I G front approaching. Sounds like you got a proper shake up. Contact Esperance Bay Yacht Club. Any number of fabulous people there will assist you for sure. Get tucked in behind Nair Island, rest up and regroup so you can enjoy the beautiful Recherché Archipelago ahead of repairs in Esperance.
